Metadata notes
Direction: 0° = north, 90° = east, 180° = south, and 270° = west. A hollow marker means the photo has GPS but no compass direction.
Magnetic versus true north: the app shows the recorded value exactly. If the EXIF reference is M, it is magnetic north and may differ slightly from the map’s true north.
Map location: the small circular tail is the exact GPS coordinate. The compact arrow points in the recorded camera direction.
Close-up view: use the map + button, mouse wheel, double-click, or Zoom closer. The map now allows zoom level 23. Above the satellite layer's native resolution the image may look slightly pixelated, but nearby photo markers continue to move apart and are easier to distinguish.
Coordinate checks: automatic fitting uses the largest group of photos within 5 km so one bad EXIF coordinate does not zoom the map out across the world. Use Fit all points to inspect every location.
Missing metadata: messaging apps, screenshots, edited copies, and some cloud exports can strip GPS or compass tags. Original camera files work best.
Cloud storage: photos and metadata stay in this browser until you choose Google Drive or SharePoint and complete sign-in. When connected, auto-save uploads the original files and a session manifest to a dedicated folder in your account. Signing in again restores the photos, edited coordinates, drawing alignment, and map settings.
Construction drawing overlay: export the relevant PDF or CAD sheet as a cropped PNG with a transparent or white background, then upload it. Use the green centre handle to pan, drag the purple scale handle inward or outward for uniform resizing, and use the blue handle above the drawing for rotation. Drag TL, TR, BR and BL only for fine adjustment or perspective correction. Make rectangle / remove skew straightens the image while retaining its current centre, average width, average height and rotation. Reduce opacity while aligning. The overlay remains underneath the photo arrows.
